Ziggy Ramo at Splendour in the City

Secret Sounds presents
SPLENDOUR IN THE CITY
Splendour in the Grass Sydney Pop Up
Saturday 10 – Sunday 18, July
Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay, Sydney

Splendour in the Grass is thrilled to announce that your favourite Aussie festival is heading to the Harbour City! SPLENDOUR IN THE CITY will pop up at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal from Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 July.

When it comes to racialized discrimination and injustice, silence is violence – and that makes Sydney-based hip hop and freestyle artist Ziggy Ramo the roaring sound of peace. Raised in remote Arnhem Land and influenced by artists and activists from Yasiin Bey and Lauryn Hill to Charlie Perkins and Adam Goodes, Ziggy’s voice addresses the silenced injustices of Aboriginal Australia and other social issues, speaking truth to power and giving voice to the disenfranchised and dispossessed.

Released at the height of 2020’s Black Lives Matter protests, Black Thoughts articulated a powerful, compassionate perspective expressed through brilliant lyricism, a sense of spiritual renewal, and grooves that echoed Ziggy’s beloved, Golden Era of hip-hop. It was named Album of the Year at the SMAC Awards, while April 25 took home the prize for Song of the Year.

After striking up a friendship with Paul Kelly that has ranged from coffee conversations to creative collaborations, Paul handed over the original iconic song From Little Things Big Things Grow for Ziggy to rework and share his message through the release of Little Things in 2021.

With his livestream performance wowing audiences at the Sydney Opera House last year, Ziggy Ramo is one live act you don’t want to miss.

Supported by the NSW Government, Splendour in the City will offer Sydneysiders and visitors a tantalising, nine-day long taste of Splendour goodness with over 20 artists across two rooms, the Comedy Club, long table dining, specialty bars including The Strummer Bar and The Winery, art installations, markets, Little Splendour kid’s program, a Freak VR room pop up and more.

“While we’re still working towards our Byron Bay event in November and are very grateful for the ongoing support from our Splendour community, we hope that the Splendour in the City pop up, alongside our recently announced Splendour XR virtual festival, will tide you all over in the meantime” said Jessica Ducrou, Co-founder Splendour in the Grass. “Hugest thanks to the NSW Government and Destination NSW for their support to make this happen” she said.
