Ali Barter ‘Chocolate Cake’ EP tour w/Charlie Gradon

Unconventional pop star Ali Barter releases her new EP Chocolate Cake. Following on from singles ‘Twisted Up’ and ‘You Get In My Way’, the 4-track EP is out now on Inertia Music. Alongside its release is a lyric video for the title track, made with the same creative team for her previous singles; We Made That.

The Chocolate Cake EP was written across both hemispheres. Barter engaged in writing sessions in Los Angeles and Nashville before the crushing reality of COVID-19 jeopardized her first US tour and forced her back home to isolate in Melbourne. The EP was rounded out remotely with the help of creative minds Harlan Silverman, Lost Boy, K-Flay, who co-wrote the EP title track, Brandon James and lockdown buddy/ husband Oscar Dawson.

“Most of the songs on this EP are about looking for answers in the wrong places, and about trying to find something that takes me out of my head. Searching for a chocolate cake in a hardware store is a parable for my life,” says Ali on the project.

Previous Chocolate Cake single ‘Twisted Up’ was added to triple j and received support from Tone Deaf, NME, Purple Sneakers, Music Feeds, as well as ‘You Get In My Way’ gaining love from FBi Radio and Carte Blanche.

In 2019 Barter’s confessional Hello, I’m Doing My Best struck a nerve with fans worldwide, garnering support at home from the likes of triple j (Feature Album), Pitchfork, Line of Best Fit, Consequence of Sound, Nylon, Clash Magazine.

Pre-COVID Barter went global; completing her debut overseas tour, including dates around Europe, performing at Reeperbahn 2019 and whistle-stop shows in Los Angeles and Mexico City. She then returned home to Australia for the Hello, I’m Doing my Best tour which saw her sell-out shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Last November/ December saw the perfect ending to 2020 with Ali Barter touring throughout regional New South Wales & Victoria, much to the delight of fans who sold out eight shows.

Support from the incredible Charlie Gradon on the night.
